Presumptive Eligibility for Medicaid for Pregnant Women (PEPW) 

The Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County offers pregnancy testing for women who are uninsured and not covered by Medicaid for the purpose of enrolling them in Presumptive Eligibility for Medicaid for Pregnant Women (PEPW).  PEPW is temporary Medicaid that allows the woman to begin prenatal care as soon as possible to help ensure a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.  PEPW pays for prenatal visits with an obstetrician of the client's choice who accepts Medicaid patients.  However, it does not pay for hospital delivery services, so the client must still apply for Medicaid coverage through ACCESS before the PEPW term expires.

Pregnancy testing is done by appointment and all services are confidential.  If the pregnancy test is positive, a DOH-Santa Rosa eligibility clerk will assist the client in completing her application for PEPW and Medicaid will cover the fee.  There is a fee of $31.00 if the pregnancy test is negative, payable at the time of service.

What Should You Bring to Your PEPW Eligibility Interview?

When you come for your eligibility interview, the clerk will need to see:

• Client's picture ID
• Client's birth certificate if born outside the State of Florida
• Proof of the family's income for the past 4 weeks
