Disease Reporting
One of the responsibilities of DOH-Santa Rosa is to investigate cases of communicable disease. The Florida Bureau of Epidemiology relies on local health departments, healthcare providers, laboratories and other public health professionals to notify them concerning the occurrence of reportable diseases. Without your help, trends cannot be accurately detected and monitored; unusual disease outbreaks could be missed which might delay public health disease control efforts.
It is not a HIPAA violation to report diseases or conditions of public health significance to DOH-Santa Rosa; in fact, it is a requirement under Section 381.0031, Florida Statutes and Chapter 64D-3, Florida Administrative Code (FAC). Practitioners, hospitals, medical facilities, laboratories, schools, nursing homes, state institutions or other locations providing health services are required to notify DOH of diseases or conditions and the associated laboratory test results listed in the Table of Reportable Diseases or Conditions to Be Reported, Rule 64D-3.029, FAC.

Sentinel Physician Influenza Surveillance Program
DOH-Santa Rosa also needs physicians to help monitor outbreaks of influenza in our community. MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and epidemiologists. But you don't have to be a medical professional to volunteer. Other community members such as interpreters, chaplains, office workers, and legal advisors, can fill other vital support roles within the MRC.
