Your Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County is the first line of defense for any environmental problems. Call us first and we will do our best to solve the problem or provide you with the information you need to deal with the agency of jurisdiction. Some of the services provided by Environmental Public Health (EH) are:
- Beach water testing
- Food hygiene inspections at limited facilities
- Group care facility inspections
- Mobile home park inspections
- Well testing
- Public swimming pool inspections
- Septic tank inspections and permits
- Rabies surveillance
- Tanning salon inspections
EH Education
The EH division is committed to our community and frequently attends local events to promote environmental public health initiatives and educate citizens about important public health topics. EH has attended a wide variety of local events, given topic-specific presentations for both large and small groups, and has sponsored, promoted, supported, and participated in many community based projects.
For example, EH has given educational presentations or set up informational sessions at health fairs, Relay for Life events, public schools, and seminars. The EH division has provided presentations on topics such as food safety, proper hand-washing techniques for schoolchildren, and recycling among others.
EH is ready to provide your organization with information and support. We are available to deliver fun, informative, and tailored presentations or demonstrations to your group or event. Please contact us for more information about community outreach or health education opportunities.
Radon
Did you know:
- Radon is a naturally occurring, odorless, colorless, tasteless, and radioactive gas produced from the radioactive decay of radium, found in most soils and earthen construction materials.
- Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
- 1 in 5 homes in Florida have an elevated radon level?
- Radon is the single largest source of radiation exposure in the U.S.
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that radon is responsible for more than 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the U.S. (about one person every 25 minutes).
- U.S. Surgeon General recommends all houses be tested for radon.
